Legendary AcapulcoDuration: 4 Hours
This tour includes a Cliff Diver Show. The last stretch to the Peace Chapel requires an uphill walk. Guests should be aware that the return drive may experience delays due to heavy traffic.
This half day Acapulco tour has been popular for years with first-time visitors. It provides a look at Acapulco that includes spectacular scenery, old and new parts of this much-touted holiday destination and one of its most talked about attractions, La Quebrada cliff divers.
Departing from the port in your air conditioned van, head toward Caleta, Acapulco’s first residential area which launched the destination to resort stardom. A stop will be made at Los Flamingos Hotel, once a favorite of many Hollywood stars including Johnny Weismueller of Tarzan fame and John Wayne. From here continue down the winding road to La Perla Restaurant, overlooking La Quebrada.
Cliff Diver Show
From this traditional spot, you are invited to a spectacular show arranged as a private performance for our guests. Watch in awe the dramatic performance of the world-famous La Quebrada cliff divers. Standing poised at the edge of a jagged promontory, the divers soar from the 136-foot cliff into the crashing surf below. Since the 1930s, the show has become an enduring symbol of the city.
Refreshments and Mexican Snacks are provided are arrival and during the show!
Following the performance, proceed to La Perla Restaurant for refreshments and Mexican snacks. On the way out, you will have an opportunity to shake hands with the stars of the show.
Leaving La Quebrada, proceed traveling toward downtown and along the main thoroughfare, La Costera Miguel Aleman. This several-mile-long seafront avenue skirting the bay is lined with deluxe hotels, restaurants and shopping complexes. At the end of La Costera, the road winds its way up a steep hillside, offering fantastic views over the city, the bay and the formidable mountain range that provides an impressive backdrop. Your guide will point out some of the posh villas built by the rich and famous in the prestigious residential area of Las Brisas.
Las Brisas and Chapel of Peace
As your van enters the grounds of Las Brisas, you will pass the legendary pink and white villas en route to the Chapel of Peace. The last stretch has to be made on foot. Towering above the chapel is a 128-feet-high cross, completed in 1970 as a tribute to the sons of a wealthy local couple whose two sons died in an air accident. The Chapel of Peace is interdenominational and thus open to all mankind. From its location, 1250 feet above sea level, you can enjoy a truly breathtaking view of the whole of Acapulco.
On your way down, enjoy vistas offering an expanse of ocean, beach and lush greenery. Heading back to the port, you may opt to be dropped off for shopping, after which you will make your own way back to the ship.
