I visit London often and always like to experience something new in the city. This time I paid a visit to the Churchill War Rooms Museum. Located in Westminster it is family friendly and well organized. If you have a interest in WWII history or Churchill I can highly recommend a visit to this museum. I also took some time to visit a few hotels in London as follows:
THE GORING - Located near Buckingham Palace the hotel has celebrated 105 years as a family owned hotel and just completed their renovations. Everything in the hotel is looking gorgeous! The newly painted mural in the lobby along with the new footman in their beautiful red coats are exquisite.
Deluxe and Delightful King rooms are a good size and all of the king beds can be made out to two twin beds if you desire. The dining room, lounge and bar are always full with guests and locals. It has become one of the hot spots of London and it is wise to book dinner reservations in advance.
JUMERIAH LOWNDES HOTEL - Located just a few blocks from Harrods this small boutique property has a personable staff who remember your name right away. My room was small and perfect for a single traveler if you had two people in the room it would be a tight fit. The bath was well appointed with a great shower. They have a nice dining room with tables inside and outside for good weather.
ROCCO FORTE BROWN'S HOTEL - Established in 1837 the Brown's Hotel is the first hotel in London and located in the central district of Mayfair near the designer shops.
The hotel consists of 11 Georgian townhouses with a beautiful dining room, a great tea room and bar. These dining areas are popular with the locals for lunch, dinner, tea and drinks after work. When dining at lunch time the room is full of local business men and women obviously making important connections.
The lead in category room is a nice size with a true king bed. Sir Rocco's favorite suite is the Kipling Suite where Kipling wrote the Jungle Book. The suite has hardwood floors
and quite grand. The classic suites are large with a sofa that can fit a child and great for families. The baths in the hotel consist of separate tubs and showers.
11 CADOGAN HOTEL - A member of the Small Leading Hotels and located near Harrods. The hotel consists of several townhouses with cool nick and crannies. The deluxe category rooms are spacious with kind beds. They also have nice suites with antique furniture and Murano glass chandeliers. All rooms are bright and inviting and the hallways are dark and "club like". They are currently renovating the top floor rooms and once completed will start on the next floors.
THE SHANGRI-LA AT THE SHARD - Located inside the Shard building in the London Bridge Quarter it occupies floor 34 - 52. The hotel will be one year old in May and offers fantastic views of London. Rooms are spacious starting with a deluxe room category, kind bed with sitting area and separate tub and shower in the bath. The superior category is a bit larger with the same amenities. Their superior suite has a larger sitting area with one and half baths. Depending on the ocation of your room the lay-out will be a bit different due to the shape of the building which makes each room unique.
The Shangri-La offers a full fitness center open 24 hours and a pool with a view on the top floor. Next to the pool is a cocktail and champagne bar. The lounge located near the front desk is great for meals, high tea and the views. Special note: While having tea in the lounge they offered me a small stool next to my chair to hold my purse. How smart of them! The hotel also offers a ballroom and smaller rooms for meetings and offers world class business facilites.
