Tahiti Defines Paradise & Romance

There is no denying Tahiti is one of the most romantic islands in the South Pacific. There are not enough adjectives to describe the beauty Tahiti is blessed with.

I revisited the island on an educational trip hosted by Hilton Resorts. Tahiti is only an 8 hr. flight from Los Angeles. My Air Tahiti Nui flight left late afternoon from Los Angles on. It was a 747 aircraft with comfortable seats and a friendly flight crew, and overall was very pleasant.

Papeete is the capital of the Tahiti, in the Society Islands, and all international flights arrive and depart from here. Since my flight arrived late in the evening, our group stayed overnight at a resort in Papeete.

The next morning we took the circle Island tour of Papeete and visited the waterfalls, blowhole and the James Norman Hall Museum with its rich history. I highly recommend this tour. It’s a great way to see the main island and see a bit of Tahitian culture.

I visited the open air market at LeMarché where they sell fresh water pearls , local handicraft, souveneirs and Tahitian oils. Tahitian women have beautiful long hair and I am told they use a lot of local oils.

Since I have long hair myself, I decided to purchase the oils and try on my own hair… I guess you never know where you will find the secret to beautiful hair. Another must-see is the waterfront, Vaiete Square, where gourmet food trucks set up nightly offering sweets and treats.

In the afternoon, we left on a 30-minute ferry ride from Papeete to Moorea. I absolutely enjoyed this ferry ride. I sat outside on the top open deck and took in the scenery as we left the harbor. The locals take this ferry to commute between the islands, and I highly recommend this to anyone visiting Moorea. Moorea is known as the magical island.

I arrived at the Hilton Moorea Resort which is one of the very few 5- star resorts on the island. I immediately fell in love with this resort. The over water bungalows are stunning! One can see both the sunrise and sunset from this resort. I saw couples dining under the stars and, speaking of dining, the food here is world class.

I love photography, and knew this is an opportunity to take some incredible pictures of sunrise in Moorea. So the next morning, I woke up early around 5:30am, sat outside on my deck with my Canon camera ready to the take pictures of the Moorea sunrise.

As the sun rose I heard the birds chirping, and the island slowly came to life. It was an incredible experience. In Moorea, you don’t have to leave your bungalow for breakfast, you can have your breakfast delivered by canoe every morning.

One of the activities I recommend in Moorea is to go on an Eco-tour expedition with Dr Michael Poole to look for spinner dolphins. This adventure is excellent for those interested in marine life. Dr. Poole is a renowned scientist in Tahiti and very knowledgeable about marine life on the island. In Moorea there is diverse selection of activities to keep you busy, from interior island tours on an ATV or water based activities.
