3 Things To Do in Dubai

Our choice of airline for the non-stop flight from the USA was Emirates and we were not disappointed. With an all new fleet of airplanes, flawless personal service and virtually unlimited entertainment options, the airline has brought pleasure back to flying.

Our choice of hotel for our 3-night stay was the Park Hyatt which is located fairly close to the airport. Situated in park-like grounds, our balcony room had a great view of the marina and the adjacent Dubai creek. The hotel and its surroundings proved a very welcome and soothing oasis after sightseeing and traveling around Dubai and its futuristic urban landscape, with skyscrapers on end, including the highest building in the world, the Burj Kalifa, and a continuously expanding

freeway system still subject to rush-hour traffic problems. The Park Hyatt’s size is small and fairly untypical for Dubai hotels, which makes the personalized service we received here so memorable.

My recommendations and Must-Dos include:

1. A visit to the Burj al Arab, Dubai’s “self-annointed 7-Star Hotel”, an iconic landmark on a man made island built in the shape of a sail. Reservations for drinks or a meal are required, no access without.

2. A seaplane or helicopter ride – the only way to really get an overview of the city, race track and the two man-made island attractions in the Arabian Gulf, Palm Island and the World.

3. A visit to the Dubai Mall and the Souk al Bahar, adjacent to Burj Khalifa you will need a reservation and tickets to ascend to the 124th floor). This complex also houses the Dubai fountain, with spectacular performances of light, music and water every half hour. The fountain is 900 feet long and shoots water jets as high as 500 feet. Our favorite was dinner at Bice del Mare overlooking the fountain to a performance of Andrea Bocelli’s “Con te Partiro.”
