Mind, Body & Spirit at Miraval in Tucson, Arizona

Miraval in Tucson, Arizona, whose tag line is “Mind, Spirit, Body,” is one of my favorite resorts. Miraval is a member of TravelStore’s Signature Hotel Collection, which qualifies our clients to receive exclusive value-added amenties such as resort credits, upgrades and early check-in which would not be available if booked direct.

What makes Miraval so special is the philosophy. They have a clear and effective focus on bringing harmony to mind and body.

There are all kinds of fitness classes, as well as the challenge courses. The signature activity, however, and one that you will not find at many other health and fitness resorts, is the Equine Experience.

During this awesome session, guests are taught how their mind effects how a horse responds to you – it’s something you have to experience to understand, but trust me when I say that it will take your consciousness to a new level!

Miraval is an all-inclusive resort as far as meals, classes and activities. There is usually a spa credit included with every booking, which will cover at least one massage. The spa is operated by Clarins. There are some specialized classes which have an extra charge, but most activities are included.

The instructors are excellent, and the classes at Miraval are so much fun.

In addition to all of the other classes and activities, guests also have several pools to enjoy, golf instruction and beautiful hiking trails. Occasionally, they hold special activity weeks for seminars, mother/daughter getaways, etc.

The food at Miraval is healthy, as of course one would expect from a health and fitness resort, … but it is very good and the Miraval cookbook is quite popular. Alcohol is available at the resort, which is not the case with many other health spas, but it is an additional cost.

Miraval has three types of accommodations. The standard rooms are closest to the restaurant and most of the activities. These rooms are comfortable, but based on my last visit, they are in need of updating. They have a combined tub and shower and are fairly simple in design.

The premium rooms (Catalina Suites) are larger and much more contemporary.

These rooms have beautiful bathrooms with large freestanding tubs and a separate shower as well as outdoor shower. The Catalina Suites have the best views, but they are also furthest from the main area, so that is something to consider. Guests do have the option to call a golf cart if they want a ride to and from their accommodations.

The third option are the villas. These are absolutely gorgeous, with two or three bedrooms, a huge living room, kitchen and dining area, plus plunge pools and amazing views. One of the bedrooms within the villa is suitable for staff traveling as well.

My recommendation is to consider a stay of about four nights – the perfect amount of time for an incredible girlfriend getaway and wellness vacation!
