Sand Dining Under the Stars in Bermuda

Bermuda is such a beautiful country and one way they have preserved the beauty of it is to restrict transportation for visitors. You may not be able to rent a car, but you can still take a cab, or have a private driver in addition to the way of the locals: scooter, bus, ferry, or even a horse-drawn carriage.

I have always wanted to experience the exclusive experience of dining on the sand, however the price is usually prohibitive for this special event. At Coconuts Restaurant at the Reef, they set up a limited number of tables for on the sand dining, complimentary! The tables are set mere steps from the surf, dressed in a simple yet study linen with soft candlelights, and in between the tables along the path are tiki torches that glow against the pink-tinged limestone cliffs.

The menu leans into Bermudian coastal flavors, featuring fresh-caught fish, spiny lobster, and island-inspired sides like rum-glazed sweet potatoes. You will not feel rushed here, that’s for sure. To give you a truly intimate experience that’s deeply connected to the place, the service is unhurried and it feels like you could stay there all day. And unlike the crowded dining terraces in the island’s busier corners, this is your private slice of paradise, away from the noise, beneath a blanket of stars.

We were able to have this experience for the price of the regular menu, while enjoying excellent and attentive service, delicious food, a romantic candlelit ambience, all while watching the sunset and waves crash on the sand before our eyes. As the sun begins to dip below the horizon, the sound of the sea becomes your background music. You’ll find no crowds here, just the soft murmur of the ocean and maybe the gentle clink of a wine glass.
