The Grand Velas in Cabo San Lucas

A while back I read about a $25,000 taco at the Grand Velas in Cabo. It peaked my interest and ever since I have been curious about this elusive taco featuring ingredients like langoustine, kobe beef, black truffle brie cheese and Beluga caviar that sits in a tortilla made of corn and 24k gold foil. If that’s not intriguing I don’t know what is?

Everything about the Grand Velas is “grand,” from the art throughout, to the pink flowers everywhere, you feel welcomed and excited to be there. Upon walking into the lobby I realized it was a place that definitely seemed worthy of this high priced taco!

The Grand Velas is limitless luxury, a beachfront resort that features 304 all-suite rooms that are plush and spacious. The resort accommodates guests of all ages and have a wonderful kids program that includes babysitting amenities that includes a nanny that comes to the room bearing all the necessary childcare supplies; a pacifier, bib, bouncy chair, etc. The nannies give parents a chance to sneak off for a dip in the pool and/or a delicious French dinner at “Piaf,” with a glass of wine for example. Grand Velas emits extravagance, but with a warm and inviting staff that keep the place unstuffy, relaxed and comfortable.

The resort and accommodations are fabulous, but what really sets this place apart is the food. There are seven restaurants and six bars that all have something different to offer, with décor that matches the vibe of each one. My friends and I dined at “Lucca,” the restaurant that features Mediterranean and Italian cuisine, and enjoyed a delicious meal that was fine dining at its best. Each plate was brought out with amazing attention to detail, and the wait staff even placed down each plate to each guest at our table on a synchronized que. After our meal the chef came out to greet and chat with us and then went on to greet other guests dining there as well, which gives such a personalized and special touch to the meal.

This hotel is great for anyone who enjoys the pampering all-inclusive luxury provides; from a couple with a young child, to a girl’s getaway weekend, this hotel is the perfect fit. You will feel the warmth of the staff and the cool breeze of the sea from the moment you arrive until you leave. And by the way, if you’re interested in the fabulous, over the top taco, here are two tips, it has to be preordered months in advance so they can get all of the decadent ingredients, and a deposit is required.
