Los Cabos Adventures

Mexico‘s Cabo San Lucas in Baja California is the perfect escape for the adventure travel enthusiast like myself. When most people think of Cabo, they think of all-inclusive hotels and spring break parties; but Cabo, set to the backdrop of oversized cactus, rugged desert mountains and cool ocean breezes, is teaming with wildlife and jaw-dropping views. From scuba diving to snorkeling with whale sharks and parasailing to horseback riding, the thrill seeker in you will not be lacking options. Most resorts can book any of these activities by contacting their front desk concierge, but some of the resorts take the adventures to the next level.

I visited many resorts on my last trip to Cabo San Lucas, which all offered a combination of relaxation mixed with the opportunity for adventure. One standout resort is the Resort at Pedregal. Only minutes from the bustling city center, I entered this secluded resort by driving through a private mountain tunnel. Once I reached the other side I enter a peaceful ocean oasis where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez. The Spanish atmosphere reminiscent of an old Mexican hacienda left no detail undone. Every guest room on this property has a private terrace with its own private plunge pool all with sweeping panoramic ocean views.

Conversing with the general manger, I was excited to learn about their “Beyond the Beach – Baja Luxploration program”.

What makes these excursions unique is that they partner with Baja locals, naturalists, farmers and artisans, and give back and support the local community. In turn, they use their insider knowledge to elevate your experience with a more personal narrative and expertise.

A great way to start the day is at sunrise with a standup paddle board tour at Cabo’s iconic Land’s End, where you can take in the sights of the natural Arch “El Arco”. It’s the perfect spot to view wildlife, as schools of fish surround you and sea lions splash as you glide along the cliffs.

Pedregal also offers a backroads of the Sierra de la Laguna mountain tour. This area is one of Baja’s best kept secrets. Outside the small town of Santiago lies an ecological desert wonderland. 4×4 jeeps will journey to a private trailhead where you’ll hike around large granite boulders and towering cacti to discover an oasis of hidden waterfalls, swimming holes and hot springs. After your morning excursion, you’ll visit the Rancho El Refugio ecological reserve to witness tortilla-making techniques before feasting on endless handmade quesadillas.

The Espiritu Santo Island tour is another fabulous opportunity to experience “The Galapagos of North America.” It won’t take long to see why as you explore this UNESCO-protected biosphere reserve by private yacht or panga. Indulge on fresh ceviche and guacamole while manta rays glide across the water below and the striking frigatebirds circle above. Snorkeling with sea lions is another option on this tour. Return at sunset sipping champagne while orange and purple hues fill the sky.

These are just a few of the excursions the Resort at Pedregal has to offer. There are so many more opportunities to delight the adventurer spirit inside you. They will even create a tailor-made experience just for you.

My visit to the Resort at Pedregal was too brief, and I am already planning to go back.
