Luxury Safari Camps in Botswana

One of our favorite destinations in Southern Africa is Botswana. Because of the importance of the Okavanga Delta as a water source, Botswana offers a varied landscape and exceptional wildlife viewing experiences. You can reach Botswana via a two-hour flight from Johannesburg.

Among our favorites are the three intimate small Belmond camps. Often we will plan a visit that spends time in each of the camps, because each offers such a different experience. The camps have no more than 15 luxury safari tents, each heated and air conditioned. There’s an internet room as well as some spa services.

Savute Elephant Camp, in Chobe National Park, is known for elephants, and the watering hole just outside the dining area often allows you to dine in the company of these gentle beasts. Lions are also found around Savute.

Eagle Island is a water based camp, allowing trips along the waterways via mokoro, a narrow canoe, viewing birdlife as well as larger game like hippo. Eagle Island also has a helicopter on premises, providing 45-mintue rides over the area to guests.

Khwai River Lodge is at the edge of Moremi Game Reserve, and is rated as one of the better lodges in Botswana for viewing wildlife. The exceptional location of Khwai makes it a regular host to elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dogs.
