“Wining” Your Way On A European River Cruise

AmaWaterways, one of the preferred river cruise lines at our cruise agency, is smart to design wine-themed itineraries on some of its European river cruises. After all, it’s a natural! Not only do many of us enjoy wine, but we’re also eager to learn more about it. What better place to do so than on vacation in the heart of Europe’s wine regions along the Rhine, Mosel and Danube rivers.

Harvest takes place in the fall, and it’s during October and November Ama Waterways is offering these “In Celebration of Wine” themed cruises on select departures of its “Vineyards of the Rhine and Mosel,” “The Romantic Danube,” “Enchanting Rhine” and “Europe’s Rivers and Castle” itineraries.

To enrich these luxury river cruise experiences, special guests onboard will conduct lectures, wine tastings and excursions ashore. These include Anthony Dias Blue, an influential wine, food and lifestyle personality.

Other hosts include British wine personality Jilly Goolden; a representative from the Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery in Sonoma, CA; and winemakers from the St. Francis Winery and Vineyards in Santa Rosa.

Some of the highlights included on these wine-themed European river cruises are a Medieval Wine Fest in the Mosel town of Zell; a traditional “Heuriger” tasting of new wine in the villages of Grinzing and Neustift on the outskirts of Vienna; a tour and tasting at the historic Bergweiler Winery in Bernkastel; an introduction to Alsatian wines at the “Wunsch et Mann” winery in Wettolsheim and a candlelit evening and wine tasting at the Hofkeller, or cellar of the famous Residenz in Wurzburg. Sounds fabulous! If you agree, our river cruise experts can help.
