You can join one of the main yearly events in Taiwan: the Dragon Boat Festival, which, as you might guess, holds dragon boat races. Also known as the Poet’s Festival, this event features rice dumplings named zongzi. But what are the believed origins of this annual festival? Poet Qu Yuan died in the Miluo River, and people rowed out by boat to search for him; to prevent the poet from being eaten by fish, they threw rice-stuffed bamboo into the water for the fish to eat. Since then, those events developed into dragon boat racing and zongzi.

Travel Season
The Dragon Boat Festival occurs on the 5th day of the 5th month of the traditional Chinese calendar; so it varies each year.
