Engyo-ji Temple Visit

Learn how to meditate from Buddhist monks and experience the copying of Sutras (Buddhist texts) as monks have done for over 2,500 years. Plus, walk through the temple complex that is over 1,000 years old. Engyo-ji Temple is located on Mount Shosha in Himeji. Due to the beautiful mountain scenery and absence of modern infrastructure on the temple grounds, it has been frequently used as a film location.

Background

Can be a day trip from Kyoto or Osaka. You can take the Mount Shosha Ropeway up Shosha Mountain or you can hike one mile up the trail to the mountain to the temple complex. Scenes from The Last Samurai were filmed there.
