Four decades ago, civil war nearly wiped out all wild animals in Mozambique. There was only one leopard in Gorongosa National Park, a male discovered in 2018. A restoration project was initiated. Over a year later, a female leopard was introduced. Today, the park’s wildlife population is growing for both herbivores and carnivores, including up to 80 wild dogs.

Background
"Gorongosa National Park is a preserved area in the Great Rift Valley of central Mozambique. Its forests and savannahs are home to lions, hippos and elephants. Lake Urema and its surrounding wetlands and rivers attract scores of water birds. The multitiered Murombodzi Falls spills over jagged rocks on the slopes of Mount Gorongosa. Limestone gorges and bat-filled caves define Cheringoma Plateau." -- Google
