  • Visit the highlight of the city : Hassan II mosque
  • Stroll in the small Medina and admire Art deco architecture
 DETAILED DESCRIPTION:

Explore Casablanca, the economic capital of Morocco. From your motor coach you will walk through Place Mohammed V-the main square.

At Casablanca's New Medina, a modern development in a traditional style, you will view the outside of the magnificent Royal Palace and the Regional Law Courts. The highlight here will be an inside visit to the Great Mosque (Hassan II Mosque). This phenomenal building is the world's third-largest mosque and it was built to commemorate the former king's 60th birthday, opening in 1993. It is the only mosque in Morocco where non-Muslims are allowed to enter inside. This law dates back to a French governor of Christian origin who passed the law to ensure that none of his countrymen inadvertently offended the local Muslim communities by entering mosques without following the correct protocol – this law still stands today.

You will also note that the mosque is the tallest building in Casablanca, which is kept so by royal decree, and means that Casablanca does not have any commercial high rise buildings.  You will find that it is a typical example of stunning Arab-Islamic architecture.

Also step inside at the Notre Dame de Lourdes Church and browse in the central market. Driving along the coastal road, admire the golden beaches of the Ain Diab Resort and enjoy refreshment.

You'll have some free time in the famous United Nations Square for optional shopping before you return to the ship.

 DETAILED DESCRIPTION:

We depart the quayside for our guided drive to the city of Rabat. Sitting on the Atlantic coastal plain Rabat is the capital city of Morocco. It is a modern city with wide boulevards, gardens and white buildings. A far cry from the hectic warrens of the other Imperial cities of Marrakech and Fes, but no less steeped in history with its origins going back to the 7th Century.
This enchanting city is home to many historic monuments and has some superbly preserved relics of its Moorish past.

Our first stop is at the must-see Mausoleum of Mohammed V, which was completed in 1971 and contains the tombs of the late Moroccan king and his two sons. This is a spectacular site and is an architectural marvel, and monument to a great rule - truly a final resting place fit for a king.

From here we transfer to the Kasbah Oudaya medina which will give you a good taste of what a traditional medina in Morocco is all about. We meander down the hill slope to the Andalusian Gardens where we enjoy a tea overlooking the river and city of Sale. The gardens are also home to the art museum which concentrates mainly on historical Moroccan jewelry.
