Traditional Langkawi

A fascinating tour that will take you through the urban and rural areas of legendry Langkawi. Pass by scenic paddy fields witnessing groups of buffaloes resting in their muddy ponds as you venture past quaint Malay villages (‘kampungs’), scattered all over the island, giving you a true insight into the landscapes of Langkawi.

Visit Laman Padi (Rice Garden), one of Langkawi's main ecotourism attractions, where visitors can view all aspects of rice cultivation, the oldest economic activity in Malaysia. Arrive at the Craft and Cultural Complex, a major attraction for tourists visiting the island of Langkawi.

This magnificent complex is dedicated solely to Malaysian handicrafts. Here, you will find an exclusive assortment of craftwork items ranging from forest-based products, batik fabrics, ceramics and metal artefacts, to beautiful art objects, wood products, baskets, rattan based products and costume jewellery. Also housed inside this complex are two galleries: a heritage museum that showcases a number of handicrafts and musical instruments representing the various Malaysian ethnic groups and the Wedding Gallery showcasing the colourful traditional wedding costumes worn by the various communities of multi-ethnic Malaysia.

The journey continue with a journey to Langkawi's most prominent landmark, situated near the Kuah Jetty. Eagle Square’s main attraction is the magnificent statue of the reddish brown eagle majestically poised for flight. According to local folklore, Langkawi derived its name from the eagle or "helang." In old Malay, "kawi" denotes reddish brown, hence Langkawi means "reddish brown eagle”.
