Isafjordur - Life & Culture - HD Tour
This tour gives a good view of the West fjords. It emphasizes on the human side of the struggle to survive in times gone by, the beautiful but sometimes harsh landscape of the West fjords and the life of the inhabitants in recent times.
Starting at Isafjordur harbor drive through the center of Isafjordur, along the road Oshlid to Bolungarvik. A stop is made at the outdoor exhibit of Osvor just outside Bolungarvik. Osvor is an old fisherman’s hut that was restored in 1988. Osvor is a perfect example of how life was for Icelandic fishermen until the beginning of the 20th century. From Osvor we drive to Bolungarvik for sightseeing in the village and visit the small church. From Bolungarvik we drive  back to Isafjordur, on the way you will be able to see Buna River and a waterfall in Tunguskogur and sip fresh mountain water that flows down the stream clear and refreshing. Drive around the old streets of Isafjordur and end in the maritime and folk museum. The museum is situated in one of the oldest houses in Isafjordur, beside it are 3 other houses, all from the same area, around 1780, and all well preserved.

Isafjordur - Sudureyri Food Trail - HD Tour

An authentic, once-in-a-lifetime inter-cultural experience that you are unlikely to forget …

One cannot help but wonder what it is exactly that makes people tick in these tiny fishing communities hugging the north Atlantic coast. What is it that keeps them here? Is it the lure of the fishing industry or is it more than just that? What is it that forms such a bond that people fight tooth and nail to keep their communities afloat and strive to save them from the fate of abandonment as has been the case for so many before them in the strikingly desolate Westfjords of Iceland.
Embark on a journey of enlightenment and visit the eco-conscious fishing village of Sudureyri. Take a tour with a difference and allow the locals to answer these questions themselves. Stop at various intervals to enjoy sumptuous tastes of local produce as you amble around the town during an in-depth guided tour of this exemplary community. Be prepared for some cultural surprises though. Who would have thought that a local business man has been crowned an honorary chief in an African village because of his dedicated re-cycling efforts! (The by-products will amaze you.)
Even the local fishing boats get in on the eco act as Sudureyri is now principally a base for speed-boat fishermen, who sail quickly out to sea and return to land with fresh, high-quality catches. Such is the speed and efficiency of the entire operation that the local catch is on sale in Europe a mere 36 hours later. These are local fishermen that strive to practice sustainable, environmentally friendly fishing in complete harmony with nature. They know that this will ensure their own future and their children’s future.
Sudureyri is also the only community in the locality that enjoys a supply of geothermal hot water which provides enough hot water to heat all the buildings in the village and the outdoor swimming pool (the only one of its kind in the area); whilst a hydroelectric power station ensures residents have access to hydro-powered electricity.
