Hvar has a proud history of wine-making, ever since the ancient Greek settlers planted the original vines here, back in 384 BC. The island's wines were considered a valuable commodity then as they are now, exported around the Mediterranean and enjoyed by many people through the ages. Hvar’s best-known wine is cultivated from the autochthonous grape variety Plavac Mali, that yields a dark ruby red color wine with a pronounced varietal aroma, harmoniously full-bodied in flavor.
