Shaar Hashamayim Synagogue is located in downtown Cairo. The synagogue was built in 1899 as the main synagogue for the Jewish community with an architectural style inspired by ancient Egyptian temples. The synagogue’s square interior, covered by a large dome, presents arcades on three sides with marble steps leading to the shrine, which sits at the centre of the eastern wall. As years went by, this marvelous building held host to many weddings and funerals.
